Joseph Hoyda, MA, RP
PhD Candidate
Joseph Hoyda is a Registered Psychotherapist and the founder of Veritas Psychotherapy and Counselling. He completed his M.A. degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Windsor and is currently completing his Doctorate.
Background
Joseph has received expert training in Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy and Emotion-Focused Therapy. Joseph has trained and worked in university, private practice and community mental health settings. This has provided him with extensive experience in treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, BPD, perfectionism, self-esteem and life adjustment difficulties.
Approach & Philosophy
Joseph prioritizes the process of assessment and conceptualization, working collaboratively with his clients in gaining a comprehensive understanding of their presenting problems. This entails identifying not only the surface-level issue, but also delving into the underlying root causes. By uncovering the core elements contributing to the problems, he aims to focus on addressing those root causes to promote deep and lasting change rather than mere symptom relief. Joseph and his clients will then explore effective strategies and interventions tailored to the specific needs of the client, with the ultimate goal of promoting profound transformation and improved overall well-being.
Joseph utilizes an integrative approach to therapy and customizes treatment plans according to each individual’s specific needs. As a therapist, Joseph provides a non-judgmental space in which his clients feel free to be their authentic self and explore difficult thoughts and emotions. He believes that true healing and change can only occur when a person learns to face, understand, and radically accept their true self.
Research
Joseph’s research and publications are focused on statistics in psychological research, positive psychology and the relationship between morality and mental health. His current research is focused on the relationship between attachment styles and mental health. Joseph has taught undergraduate courses at the University of Windsor and has presented his research and joined discussions at a number of psychology conferences. Prior to his pursuit of psychology, Joseph studied philosophy and music at York University.
