Frequently Asked Questions

A psychotherapist is a mental health professional who has extensive training in how people think and behave. Psychotherapists treat a wide range of mental health difficulties.

First sessions are known as intake sessions. These are 50 minutes long and covers informed consent, privacy and practice policies. The first session involves gathering background information, creating a relationship, and establishing goals for therapy.

Sessions are booked for a 1 hour and last 50 minutes. The remaining time of the hour is used for documentation, preparation and scheduling appointments.

If you need to miss an appointment, please give 24 hours notice. Please note that there is a full-session fee for missed appointments/appointments that are cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice.

Sessions typically occur on a weekly or biweekly basis for the best results. Sessions may occur more or less frequently depending on individual needs.  Clients in distress may be seen more frequently if needed. Less frequent sessions may also be used as check-in sessions after recovery or if finances are an issue.

This is highly dependent on the individual and what they would like to achieve. Therapy can last anywhere from a couple of months to multiple years.

We do not currently offer direct billing to insurance companies. You will receive a receipt after payment, which you can submit for reimbursement from your health insurance/benefits provider. Please consult your plan for details.
